TIERED PROGRAMME FOR ALL STUDENTS
Every Andersonian will experience the Heritage and Citizenship (HCE) Programme throughout his/her secondary life. Key learning opportunities include:
1. 4 National Education (NE) Commemorative events
Total Defence Day, International Friendship Day, Racial Harmony Day and National Day are commemorated and celebrated annually through a variety of activities.
Total Defence Day
The commemoration of Total Defence Day is always an immersive experience. Recent highlights introduced Andersonians to the taste of wartime rations (left), difficulties related to military training (centre), and the importance of emergency preparedness (right).
International Friendship Day
Every year, we celebrate friendship across boundaries with our annual Anderson Travel Fair, which features the overseas experiences of Andersonians and other exciting performances, such as those from our Thai partner school, Winitsuksa School.
Racial Harmony Day
Racial Harmony Day is always a whirlwind of cultural experiences, where Andersonians decked out in ethnic attires learn about the cultural heritage of Singapore through traditional games, performances and workshops by professional artisans—and even our own teachers!
The largest celebration in our school calendar, National Day is anchored by the official National Day observance ceremony, the Andersonian parade of our distinguished Uniformed Group contingents, the CCA Colours Awards ceremony and a remarkable finale concert featuring our talented staff and students.
2. Local learning journeys
Andersonians are encouraged to learn about Singapore through firsthand experiences, including:
- Ang Mo Kio Heritage trail, where they learn more about our immediate environment under the guidance of fellow classmates
- Learning journeys to significant national institutions like the Army Museum of Singapore, Urban Redevelopment Authority, Marina Barrage, where students can learn to understand and appreciate national initiatives and policies.
3. HCE Ambassador Leadership Programme
Selected Andersonians are invited to participate in the HCE Ambassador Leadership Progamme, where students are groomed to become peer leaders who are confident, creative and committed to the betterment of society.
Having gained a wider exposure in the area of Heritage & Citizenship Education and also the Leadership Programme, our HCE ambassadors also become active advocates of HCE and assist in planning and execution of HCE activities.
