Familymatters@School – Shaping Families, Nurturing Our Future
Launch of School FamilyMatters @ Anderson Secondary School
As part of the school continual efforts to provide a holistic education to our students and foster strong and stable families, Anderson Secondary school has partnered with Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF)’s initiative, to launch a School Family Education Programme for the past five years
Familymatters@School (FMS) is an initiative by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) which aims to enhance the quality of family life by making family life education resources easily available to parents, students, teachers, and other school staff through the setting up of a family resource area and provision of family life education programmes.
FMS adopts a holistic family learning model – equipping parents with effective parenting skills and helping school staff to enhance their family life, and providing students with life skills training.
The parent-child relationship has much impact on the child’s academic achievements and positive attitudes/ behaviour, regardless of socio-economic status, ethnic/ racial background or parents’ education level.
Parents bear primary responsibility for nurturing their children and they are their children’s most important and influential teachers and mentors in life. To help parents fulfill this responsibility, FMS aims to equip them with knowledge and skills to strengthen parent-child relationship and foster a better and stronger family life. When schools and families work together to support learning, parents are empowered and students do better both in school and life!
The School will be organizing talks and workshops educating parents on effective parenting and communication skills as well as monitoring computer games addiction. Some of the workshops will also include small group sessions and family bonding activities.
Dear parents, we look forward to your active participation and support in our programmes. Join us as partners to help shape and strengthen our families and nurture our future generations!
